Cake Smash Session Prep Guide


This guide will help prepare you and your baby for your upcoming Cake Smash Session. Following this guide will help ensure your session runs as smoothly as possible.


Cake Smash Sessions will only be taken at my warm and comfy home studio in Botany Downs. The session will run for roughly 45minutes to 1 hour, it really depend on the baby. The set up is styled by me, you may pick what theme or colors you would like to incorporate into the session. Please note that I don't do cartoon theme. My style is simple and classic. I will have some cute little outfits and accessories for your baby to wear. Of course you can bring your own outfit if you wish, please stick to neutral colours and avoid busy pattern or large logos/graphics if you do (Creams and whites are always best for most set ups). 


During the session, relax and have fun! 

Usually we start with some casual or formal portrait style pictures. Then we move on to a few poses with your child with their cake. Then we start the SMASH! 

Don’t assume they will dive right in. All parents hope that their little one will dive in and make a mess of the cake, that’s what you are paying for! But that doesn’t always happen and that’s okay. Not every child wants to dive right in and make a mess no matter what tricks we try. It’s important to know that even if they don’t turn their cake into a gooey pile of crumbs, I am still able to catch fun images of them poking at it or carefully picking bits of icing or decorations. 


Additional Tips: 

Make sure your child is well rested, if they skip their nap they can become cranky and irritated. Even if they like the cake they can refuse to eat it from being overly tired. It’s also a good idea to bring along a favourite toy and some snacks in case your little one needs some encouragement.


What to Bring

  • 2 Towels and a face washer
  • Extra diapers and wipes
  • A spare change of clothes for yourself (Sometimes adults get cake on them due to helping clean up their child.)
  • Small snacks for your little one to eat incase he/she isn’t into the cake. 
  • A drink for your baby to wash down the cake.
  • If your child still takes a pacifier, bring one with you in case they need to calm down.


AFTER YOUR SESSION 

An online viewing gallery with logo water marks will available to view within 2 weeks after your session. From your viewing gallery, you will be able to “star” and select your favorites. The amount of images you may select depends on the package you choose. Extra photos can be purchased at additional cost. Once you have chosen all the images you like, I will then edit them perfectly and send those to you with a print release! Then you will be able to download your high resolution files instantly via the online gallery with one click. Your notification email will contain instructions on how to download your files, (it is quick and easy!) 


Note: I do post Sneak Peeks on my social media pages after the sessions. If you prefer to not have your images posted, please let me know.
